Sunday 14th June 2pm, Open Day, Plant Fair and Visit to the Digitalis Collection at The Harris Garden, Whiteknights Campus, University of Reading, Berkshire, RG6 6UR. We are sharing and organising this event with The Friends of Harris Gardens. We shall both have plant stalls selling our respective members’ donated plants and are inviting a number of specialist nurseries to have sales stalls for rare and unusual plants. In addition the 12 acres gardens with their many interesting features will be open to visitors and we hope to organise two conducted tours for NCCPG Members. We would welcome plant donations and offers of help in manning our stall from BBO Members. If you can contribute then please advise Helen Moorcraft on 01753 853074 or hmoorcraft@yahoo.co.uk. We would still welcome more volunteers to help run the BBO members' plant sales and welcome tables at the plant sale on 14th June at Reading University. Saturday 4th July at 2 pm visit and introduction to the horticultural philosophy which has inspired Little Coppice Garden and Nursery at Little Coppice, Pinewood Road, Iver Heath, Bucks, SL0 0NJ. The visit will be an introduction to the different organic and biodynamic working practices of the seven acre garden and nursery which encompass a grade II house built in 1902 by the celebrated Arts and Crafts designer C R Ashbee. The house is often used as a set location by film and TV programme makers. Sunday 19th July at 2.30 pm, visit to The National Collection of Hemerocallis at The Nursery Further Afield. The Collection focuses on historic Hemerocallis bred in the UK. These together with other cultivars bred in the USA and Europe make a spectacular mass planting of over 500 varieties at the peak of their flowering season. If the sun shines they make a remarkable and unforgettable sight. If numbers justify there will be an introductory talk on the Collection and the development of the nursery by Gerald Sinclair the Collection Holder. Hemerocallis and other specialist perennials will be available to purchase. There is no need to book, simply turn up at The Nursery Farther Afield, Evenley Road, Mixbury, Near Brackley NN13 5YR. Its about a ten minute drive from Buckingham. Sunday 20th September 2.30 pm. We are hoping to arrange a conducted tour of the gardens at Upton House and introduction to its National Collection of Asters which consists of nearly 100 species and cultivars of Aster amellus, ericoides and cordifolius plus a representative selection of other species.
